Gorilla Suit Productions is Gary Hertz

who brings 30+ years’ experience in writing, production and international branding to this full-service creative group.

Gary began his career as National Director of Promotion & Publicity at New Line Cinema, where he created campaigns for the first three NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET films (that’s him doing the ADR line “You don’t need a stretcher up there, you need a mop.” in the original ELM STREET), THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE reissue, John Waters’ HAIRSPRAY and more.

In 1988, he ghostwrote the screenplay for a wildly popular B-movie that continues to haunt him on late night cable.

As Senior Director of Creative Services for Arista Records throughout the ‘90s, Clive Davis told him that he was “too hip for the room.” Nevertheless, Gary wrote, produced, and directed national print, radio and television campaigns for albums by Annie Lennox, Barry Manilow, The Grateful Dead, Whitney Houston (including THE BODYGUARD Soundtrack), Patti Smith, Aretha Franklin Arista/Nashville, Arista/Austin, Bad Boy Records, TLC, Sarah McLachlan, Kenny G, Flaco Jimenez, Spiritualized, BR5-49 and was lead creative on Santana’s 15x Platinum/9x Grammy winning Supernatural.

GORILLA SUIT PRODUCTIONS

Since forming Gorilla Suit Productions in 2000, Gary has launched two iconic boutique Blu-ray labels; re-branded numerous non-profits; ghostwritten countless speeches, articles and op-eds for top entertainment executives; produced/directed over 300 hours’ worth of audio commentaries, EPKs and Bonus Features in locations ranging from Brindisi, Italy to Ypsilanti, Michigan; and written thousands of national print ads & digital media campaigns for B2C & B2B clients of every shape and size.

He is also co-screenwriter of the 2021 feature film THE MATCH starring Franco Nero and Armand Assante, and co-writer of the top-selling 2025 memoir The Last Outlaw: My 50 Years in Southern Rock & Country with Henry Paul.
